  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We treated 16 eyes in 13 cases of retinal angiomatous proliferation. The series comprised 6males and 10 females. Their ages ranged from 70 to 86 years. The therapeutic modality included photocoagulation 10 eyes, subtenon injection of triamcinolone 4 eyes,low-dose radiation one eye,and transpupillary thermotherapy one eye. The eyes were followed up for 3 to 92months,average 27months. Photocoagulation was performed only when the lesions were located extrafoveally. Out of 10 eyes thus treated,6 eyes showed improved or stabilized visual acuity. In other 4 eyes with foveal involvement, macular lesions progressed in 3 eyes. Visual acuity improved or stabilized in 3 eyes. The findings show that repeated photocoagulation is indicated if the lesions are located extrafoveally. Other therapeutic approaches, including surgery, ought to be considered when the lesions are located subfoveally.
